“Yeah, yeah, I’m telling you, something is wrong. Damn wrong.”

You mean, wrong as in not quite explainable?  Or do you mean wrong as in morally wrong?

“I mean the former, I think.  I get them mixed up.  The order… former/latter… what i mean is wrong as in not quite explainable.”

Can you give me an example?

“Sure, I can give you many examples.  I’m not sharing this lightly.  I had to make certain I am not crazy.”

Oh, for sure, let’s not be crazy. So give me an example.

“Well, take yesterday. For example.  Yesterday I went to the store and bought groceries.  That is not the unexplainable part.  The unexplainable part for me is how come I ended up with a soup can this morning that doesn’t quite have the right tear in the label.”

Whuuuuuut? What are you talking about dude?

“Well, yesterday when I went to the store, I bought a can of soup.  Among other things.  But that soup can had a torn label. Very slight, but I noticed it upon retrieval from the shelf.  What I mean to say is that the soup can label was torn in such a manner that I easily committed it to memory without the intention if doing so.”

And so what you’re saying is that the soup can’s label is no longer torn?

“No. That is not what I am saying.”

Well, then just what the hell are you saying?

“Well, what I am saying is that the label is torn differently today. That is what I am saying. Yesterday the tear looked one way.  And today it looks a slightly but distinctly different way.”

Oh, I see.  So the label’s torn bigger or in a different place. You probably just accidentally tore it some more, s of course it will look different.  Silly you man.

“Not quite. The tear is in the same basic place today as it was yesterday and I guess pretty much the same size.  But today the tear has a slightly different appearance than it did yesterday.  It is more that the tear in the label is differently torn.”

IIIIIII seeeee… the label tear looks different?  Are you sure the tear is different?  Maybe your misremembering?

“You know, I know where you are going with this.  But I assure you it was a different tear. Similar, but distinctly different. Suuure if this was the only time something seemed amiss, I would brush it off as ‘well, I probably am just missing something, maybe I only thought it was different looking.’  But I assure you, it was different. I notice stuff like this all the time.  All the time. Glitches.

What’s that?  What did you say?

“Glitches. I see these little tears in the ether.  Little holes.  Small jumps between states.  Kind of like pixels that have a different shade today to yesterday.  Mix ups. Often minor seemingly trivial observations that as single occurrences could be presumed to be an accident on the part of the observer.  But in actuality, when plotted in aggregate show themselves to be something larger.  As of yet unforeseen patterns that portend to be something greater that we would otherwise realize.”

What were you talking about?

“I was talking about them glitches.”

Glitches.
