I Suddenly Gave up Meat

I Suddenly Gave up Meat

I suddenly gave up meat.

Just the other day.

It was a sudden awareness found in a plate of lasagna

Cooked to perfection.

In Ouro Preto Brasil.

Heavy.

Substantial.

Concise.

A dish with gravitas.

A dish earned through an active day of walking.

A dish full of mucus and flesh.

A dish suddenly unappetizing.

A dish with visions of Hannibal Lector eating brain.

I pushed it aside.

I drank the wine.

And have not eaten beef since that time.

In Ouro Preto Brasil.

And as the months passed.

So too did my tastes for other mammals.

And Poultry.

And even fish if you can believe that.

Slowly losing taste for mucus.

I still wear leather Birkenstocks.

My feet are picky and superficial I guess.

They don't like plastic.

They make it stink.

They hate socks.

So I gave up meat.

Just the other day.

Who knows why.

I didn’t choose to do so.

My path changed.
