Line of Demarcation

At the line of demarcation
they sequester him;
the crops run fallow,
and the land is sickly.
Beneath its darkness,
beyond the new moon,
where evil thrives,
and everything is deadly.
They banish him
for sinister actions:
stealing Life and Liberty
and the fleecing of the citizenry.
In the end defeated
through great effort
by We the people united together
who refused negotiating our equality.
Left to sit
a rotting museum piece,
a spectacle on his pedestal,
an example of needless human tragedy.
